CHAMPIONS!! I have an idea... will you help?!
Being Archer Champions, most of us have been around for awhile and have either asked or been asked, "What makes a good Archer developer?". I have a few theories, and some are even a little off-the-wall (I often ask candidates if they paint at night or have some other creative hobby). I truly believe that good Archer Developers are not your 'typical' developers, and it takes a certain type of person to really excel. We have all excelled, which is why we are a part of the Champions group, and as such are the perfect test group for one of my (many) theories! What is it about US that makes us Champions? I want to know! Why? Because these are the same traits that we might look for in hiring or cultivating the next generation of Champions!
So I hope I have your attention and you are interested in knowing as well. If you've gotten this far, I have an interesting proposal for each of you!
Some of my coworkers and I were talking one day about the different 'personality' assessments we have taken at various companies throughout our careers. Some had taken Emergenetics (which interprets your personality as colors). Personally I have taken Predictive Index (not once, but TWICE), and I know there are other 'personality' or 'behavioral' assessments out there. Comparing my Predictive Index profile to a coworkers Emergenetics profile, it was easy to see how the two align.
So here is my ask... if you have taken one of these assessments in the past, would you be willing to share your results with me? I think it would be AMAZING to consolidate results and identify similarities so we can TRULY answer the question "What makes a good Archer developer?". IF you are willing to share your own results, I will share the consolidated (but anonymous) results back to you. To show my own dedication to this project, I have attached my own PI results for your reading pleasure! If you have ever met me, nothing in it will be a surprise to you! Oh, and it doesn't matter how old the report is... they say the results don't change over time, and I am a believer in that. My last report was 2011, just a few months before Archer came into my life, but is still eerily accurate!
Is anyone else interested in knowing what makes a Champion?! Let me know! You can email me directly @

While I have never taken any of these personality tests, I would be interested in doing so and won't mind sharing if I do. Are any of them online and can be done individually or did you get access to take it as part of a group work activity? It was eerie how accurately the results seem to describe you.
It's funny that you post this just now as I have a task of "Draft a developer must do list" today which is not the same, but definitely related. Here is a few to get started:
- Always fill out the field description when creating a new field or modify the description when significantly modifying a field which should be more focused on the why than the what
- When in doubt about a requirement, please ask during development, rather than assuming what the business wants only to discover the misinterpretation during testing which leads to another cycle
- When there are several options on how to accomplish something, have a long term perspective in terms of the ongoing maintenance involved and try to simplify that as much as possible
- Make sure there are not extra spaces before or after the field name
- Document all changes to the point that when there are errors or warnings during migration, none of them should come as a surprise and all of them can be traced back to the list
Do you already have a list like this or have any items to add?

Thanks Katie! It was pretty accurate, huh? And to think I took that BEFORE I thought I could ever be a public speaker, have a ‘specialty’, or be a ‘consummate expert’ on anything!!
I actually completed the PI as part of a work activity. I will find a few that are low cost (I have found one that is $40 for a full report).
I love your list! Yes, I will absolutely add to it. Let me find that document… I think it is titled “Things that Annoy Me”. Should we start that one as a new discussion thread so people can add?

I've taken the Strengths Finder 2.0 three times over the past 7 years, and gotten the same results (in the same order even) each time. Attached is a doc that lays out what each strength means.
- Strategic
- Input
- Ideation
- Analytical
- Futuristic

Definitely in a new discussion.
I'll have to find my old "Things That Annoy Me" list too.
