Let's Talk 6.x: Upgrades, Best Practices & Lessons Learned!
Hi Champions,
On several champion calls and through e-mail conversations, we had discussions about 5.x to 6.x, 6.x to a higher version, pain points, etc. I wanted to get those conversations out of the e-mail and conversation form (at least initially) and asked Denise to help me get something going here on the Champion Community. Well, the time has finally come. This discussion post is the start of hopefully many 6.x conversations. My goal is to leverage each other to assist in our own individual company upgrades, obtain insight to upgrade or functionality issues and discuss best practices which will enhance business processes and make our jobs more efficient.
So, Champions - I want to hear from you. Which version you're at currently, any issues or roadblocks you have encountered and thoughts about 6.4 and the latest functionality. Additionally, I'd like to talk Advanced Workflow. We can have some preliminary discussion here, but that may branch off into it's own discussion at some point.
I'll start it off. We upgraded 6.2 P2 HF1 last year from 5.x. I am currently on version 6.3 P3 in our Production environment which we upgraded earlier this year. With the recent vulnerability advisories that came out and the high risk associated, we were forced with the decision to upgrade to 6.3 P7 or a 6.4 version. After the team reviewed the versions and provided feedback, it was determined that we would upgrade to the highest 6.3 version (P7) instead of adding the additional functionality which comes with 6.4. I personally felt that an upgrade is an upgrade and the same LOE goes into testing for the most part, so was hoping to leverage some of the new features of 6.4, but understand the need to get this in quick with very low risk and the least change to the platform. We have 6.3 P7 in our Dev and Test environment and plan on moving to Production early October.
Has anyone seen any showstoppers on 6.3 P7? Does anyone have any input on 6.4 P2 or above and would like to analyze and discuss that?
I look forward to hearing from you on any of the above topics.
Thank you!!
Darcey Mooney
